Attributed to Jacob Jordaens and Studio, The Judgement of Midas is an oil on canvas painting that depicts a Greek mythological story.
Midas was of course a famous king in Greek mythology, he of the Golden Touch, but King Midas was also a follower of Pan, but it was Midas who was given the task of judging a musical contest between Pan and Apollo. Midas, in The Judgement of Midas, may have awarded victory to Pan, in which case Apollo punished the king by giving him asses ears.
