Sarpedon
This painting titled Sarpedon was painted in 1874, and is a oil on cansas work from Henri Lévy.
The name of Sarpedon appears occassionally in Greek mythology, and it is not always clear whether it references the same character. Sarpedon first appears as one of the three sons of Europa by Zeus, but also appears famously during the Trojan War, where he was named amongst the defenders. It was at Troy that Sarpedon was killed and in this painting we can see the body of Sarpedon carried by Hypnos and Thanatos to his father Zeus.
