Painted in about 1634 by the relatively unknown Simon Floquet, Apollo and King Midas is an oil on copper painting depicting an episode from Greek mythology.
Apollo and King Midas shows the judgement of King Midas when a musical contest was arranged between Apollo and Pan. Midas was a follower of Pan though, and when the king adjudged Pan the superior musician, Apollo transformed Midas' ears into those of asses. King Midas would thereafter have to hide away his ears, although his barber would eventually reveal the secret.
